Kadhi




Hello everyone,
Today I thought of writing about our day to day food.. In our Gujrati household we fix dal as per day. Then we arrange other items in combination with that dal. For example monday is kadhi so with kadhi potato subji rice or khichdi and roti. Tuesday moongdal so bhindi and even dudhi go well with moongdal. Like that everyday’s menu is almost ready so the cook does not have confusion about what exactly to cook.

As today is monday, I am thinking of writing about kadhi. Potato sabji is already there in my blog so you can refer from there.

Today s recipe : kadhi

1 cup curd
2 tbsp.Gram flour
1 tsp.oil
1/2 tsp.grated Ginger
1/2 tsp.mustard seeds
1/2 tsp. Cumin seeds
1 green chilli
3/4 kari patta
2 Clove
1 small piece of cinamon.
1/4 cup jaggery/ gud
Salt to taste
Take a vessel add curd and add 3 cups of water. Blend it properly and you will have buttermilk. If you have ready buttermilk you can use that.
Now add gram flour , jaggery, and salt. Mix them thoroughly and put the mixture on stove. Bring it to boil,stirring frequently. Let it boil for at least 5 minutes.
Take a pan , add oil, heat it.
Now add mustard seeds, when it start bursting add cumin seeds,green chilli, clove and cinamon. Lastly , add karipatta and add this ‘vaghar’ to boiling kadhi. Let it boil for few minutes then turn off the stove and keep lid on it for a while. This will retain smell of vaghar in kadhi.

You can have this in place of dal.
Kadhi and rice or khichdi are very famous menu in kathiawad side of Gujrat and Saurashtra.
